Note: These instructions are for VIPM 3.0 and older. VIPM 2010 or newer does not require any special configuration steps for package building
In this exercise, we will setup VIPM for package building.
The first thing that we need to is configure the VIPM Options that are required for package building.
1. Launch VIPM.
2. Press the Check the Network for Available Packages toolbar button – this will ensure that VIPM knows about all the latest packages. If VIPM asks you if you want to install any packages, when this operation completes, say “No” (do not install any new packages at this time).
3. Open the VIPM Options window and go to the LabVIEW page.
4. Verify that all LabVIEW versions >= 8.2 are checked/selected (as shown below) – this means that they are configured for use with VIPM.
a. When you check an item, you will see a dialog asking you to configure the TCP port and test the connection. Please test the connection to ensure that VIPM can communicate with each LabVIEW version.
5. Now go to the Professional page of the VIPM Options window.
6. Check the Refresh LabVIEW Palettes After Package Installation option. This will ensure that LabVIEW’s palettes are refreshed when you install and uninstall packages.
7. Press the OK button to close the VIPM Options window.
Next, we need to configure the LabVIEW versions where we will build packages with the correct configuration.
8. From VIPM Menu select File>>Apply Package Configuration
9. Select the “Package_Configuration_LV2009.vipc” file. If you’re using an older version of LabVIEW, select one of the following:
- LabVIEW 8.6 - Package_Configuration_LV86.vipc
- LabVIEW 8.5 - Package_Configuration_LV85.vipc
- LabVIEW 8.2 - Package_Configuration_LV82.vipc
10. Press “Ok” on the VIPM Confirmation dialog.
Now we will need to mass compile OpenG Builder.
11. Launch LabVIEW 2009 by right-clicking on the LabVIEW Version Selector (shown below) and selecting Launch LabVIEW 2009. (if LabVIEW 2009 is currently running, exit LabVIEW and restart it)
12. Select Tools>>OpenG Builder from the LabVIEW menu.
13. Confirm the OpenG mass compile dialog.
14. Let the mass compile process complete and then close the OpenG Builder window.
Congratulations, you are now ready to start Building your First Package on LabVIEW 2009!
Note: if you want to build packages on a different version of LabVIEW, repeat steps 7-12 but select the appropriate “Package_Configuration_LV*.vipc” file on step 9).
